THE "NIG" OF A PROCEDURE

🔍 WHAT IS THE NIG OF A PROCEDURE?

According to Instruction 1/2009, of March 26, from the Plenary of the General Council of the Judiciary, on rules for the registration of matters in procedural management systems, its second rule mentions the following:

"Second. - Procedures will have a General Identification Number (NIG) that will be assigned at the time of filing the initiating document. The computer applications will maintain common reference to this NIG throughout their procedural process."

For easy understanding, the NIG is the general identification number. It is a number granted by the Decanate office where all filed claims are registered, and it is the number that allows identification of any procedure as well as the Court to which it has been assigned. Then, the procedure number is the number assigned in the specific Court to which it has been assigned.

Actions lacking NIG:

  • Penitentiary files: They do not have NIG but will have NIG or NIP (19 digits) on Appeal.

  • Administratives.

  • Military ones.

  • Unsustainability reports.

  • Extrajudicial transactions.
