A Voice for Citizens 🗣️⚖️

Did you know that Spain has a Defensor del Pueblo, or Ombudsman, whose job is to protect your rights?

📌 What is it?

The Ombudsman is an independent institution that oversees public administration and ensures that government actions respect citizens' fundamental rights.

📌 What do they do?

  • Investigate complaints from individuals about unfair treatment or poor administration

  • Monitor how public services work

  • Defend vulnerable groups

  • Promote transparency and good governance

📌 Why is it important?

Because it gives every person—Spanish or foreign—the chance to hold public institutions accountable, free of charge.

📝 You can file a complaint online, by mail, or in person. The Ombudsman does not belong to the government, so they act independently and impartially.

💡 A strong democracy needs mechanisms like this to make sure power is exercised fairly.
